Sarnia police issue scam warning

Sarnia police reported Friday that they're receiving a number of calls from the public about a phone scam.

Police said residents are being called by an individual claiming to represent the RCMP who tells them they owe money. The person called is told to withdraw large amounts of money from their bank accounts and deposit it in an unknown account at a different banking institution.

Sarnia police said the RCMP or any other police service does not call anyone saying money is owed to them.

Anyone receiving such a call should not provide any personal information, and just hang up.
