YMCA educator charged with assaulting child

Sarnia police have charged a 40-year-old city woman after a child was allegedly assaulted at the Jerry McCaw Family Centre YMCA.

Police began a joint investigation with the Sarnia-Lambton Children's Aid Society on May 30 after the CAS was notified of an allegation by YMCA staff.

On June 10, Lisa Teft was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon on a two-and-a-half-year-old child.

Police said the child sustained a minor injury which didn't require medical attention, and that Teft was an Early Childhood Educator at the centre at the time.

In a letter sent to parents, the YMCA confirmed that an individual had been charged by police and as of June 10 was no longer an employee with the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.
