Sarnia's mayor is calling for the city to explore bringing back the Showmobile to stage community events.
The mobile stage was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sarnia for 30 years but reached the end of its life in 2016.
Mike Bradley says the former council voted to turn down an $85,000 donation from Bluewater Power for a replacement.
"It was great. You know, we had Canada Day in Bright's Grove and the city, we had Greekfest, if Chris Hadfield or Mike Weir came back we had a built-in stage we could take to events," said Bradley. "When I was watching TV the other night, London had their Showmobile pull up by city hall and set up for Jurassic Park."
The Seaway Kiwanis Club expressed interest in sponsoring a new Showmobile but withdrew a proposal because of higher than expected costs.
Bradley wants city staff to look into securing another sponsor, hopefully in time for a yet to be announced August event.
He said he will be bringing the recommendation to council at the next meeting on June 17.
