Vidal Street closed Sunday for Imperial tower removal

A section of Vidal Street South will be closed Sunday to allow for removal of a fuel processing tower that collapsed at Imperial's Sarnia refinery April 2.

Sarnia police said there will be no through traffic whatsoever on Vidal between Clifford Street and Kenny Street from about 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The detour route will be Confederation Street to Indian Road South for southbound traffic, and Churchill Line to Indian Road for northbound traffic into the city.

Barricades will be in place and police will be on scene to help redirect traffic.

The area of St. Andrew Street at Scott Road won't be accessible either due to an existing road closure.

Local businesses along Vidal Street South, north of Clifford Street and south of Kenny Street, will remain accessible Sunday.

Imperial Government & Public Affairs Manager Kristina Zimmer said out of an abundance of caution the road will be closed until their planned crane lift is complete, which is expected by 4 p.m.
