Multiple overdoses at Sarnia Jail

Three inmates and three corrections officers were transported to Bluewater Health following a report of multiple overdoses at Sarnia Jail.

Just before 5 p.m. Friday, Sarnia Fire and Rescue and paramedics arrived to find three inmates and one correction officer exposed to and contaminated with an opioid.

Platoon Chief Bill Sheane said jail staff were working on the victims when they got there.

Sarnia firefighters set up and did emergency decontamination on the patients before putting them into several ambulances that were called to the jail.

Sheane said their HazMat team was initiated and set up full decontamination, then worked in conjunction with the corrections officers to disinfect the area that was contaminated and decontaminate all of the affected people, about a dozen, from that area.

The conditions of those taken to hospital was not immediately known.
