Day 9 Salmon Derby results

Competition picked up on Day 9 of the 43rd Annual Salmon Derby Saturday 108 fish entered at the Sarnia weigh station and 121 fish entered at the Port Franks weigh station for a daily total of 229 fish.

That brings the 8 day Salmon Derby total to 1535 fish.

The fish category leaders remained unchanged ...

Robert Brunet of Sarnia in the Salmon category with a 19.01 lb. Salmon.

Brian Dubreuvil of Sarnia in the Trout - Boat category with a 9.90 lb. Rainbow Trout.

Harry Harris of Sarnia in the Trout - Shore category with a 7.40 lb. Rainbow Trout.

Justin Tadgell of Grand Bend in the Lake Trout category with a 20.36 lb. Lake Trout.

Tammy Milne of Lambton Shores in the Walleye category with a 7.56 lb. Walleye.

Evan Hanington of Ailsa Craig is the Kids Big Fish leader with a 15.44 lb. Salmon.

The Daily Big Fish winner was Fred Wondergem of Grand Bend with a 17.40 lb. Salmon.

The Daily Draw Prize winners were Pat Cummings of Alvinston at the Port Franks weigh station and Brad Armstrong of Mooretown at the Sarnia weigh station.

Sunday is the last day of the Salmon Derby. The two weigh stations will close at 3:00 p.m. sharp.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
