UPDATE: Wyoming diner extensively damaged by fire

Damage is estimated at $150,000 after a fire Thursday morning at Athena's Diner in Wyoming.

Firefighters from Wyoming, Camlachie, and Petrolia responded to the restaurant at 569 Broadway St. just before 6 a.m.

Wyoming Fire Chief Steve Clemens said they were called by a passerby who saw flames and smoke coming from the kitchen exhaust on the roof.

"That's where it extended out of the building," said Clemens. "We still haven't determined where the fire started or what the initial cause may have been from. We're taking statements right now and we did have one occupant in the building at the time, the cook. Once we put all that information together, we will be able to give a clear indication of what may have caused this fire."

Clemens said fire crews worked to minimize damage to adjacent units.

No injuries were reported.
