An animal rehabilitation centre is bringing a taste of Mexico to Sarnia-Lambton to help save some local wildlife.
Heaven's Wildlife Rescue is hosting a Cinco De Mayo fundraiser May 3 at the Point Edward Memorial Arena.
Volunteer Nick Spanton said the all-ages event will have something for everyone.
"We're going to have a fun pinata, we're going to have some awesome food from Personal Touch Eatery & Catering, we're going to have a raffle, 50/50 draw, a photo booth. It's going to be so much fun," he said.
Spanton said this is the first year they've hosted the event.
He said because they don't receive any government grants, donations and community support play a big role in supporting their cause.
"We rely on these type of events to raise awareness and raise funds to be able to provide for any of the wildlife that come into our facility," said Spanton. "So all of the orphan baby raccoons and squirrels that everyone finds on their lawns, they come to us where we are able to rehabilitate and release them."
Spanton said he's been volunteering with the Sarnia organization since 2017, and they're always looking for more help.
"I volunteer every week for a few hours at night-- I go in and I feed all the animals in the facility, clean the cages, that sort of thing," said Spanton. "And right now is our busy season with Spring happening and all the babies coming in, so we're always looking for more volunteers."
The event goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children -- 150 are available. For more information, click here.
