The Town of Plympton-Wyoming has made another plea to the province for a fairer tax assessment for industrial wind turbines.
Mayor Lonny Napper believes the current market value assessment is very low and wants it reassessed.
"With the cancellation of the green energy act, we thought there might be an opportunity," said Napper. "Here in Plympton-Wyoming we have 22 turbines and we get to collect $35,000 in taxes off those. So, we think it's very low compared to other utilities like the pipelines, grain elevators."
Chief Administrative Officer CAO Carolyn Tripp said the tax revenue falls short of the amount needed to provide services, like roads to service the turbines and fire protection.
Mayor Napper and CAO Tripp have requested a meeting with Finance Minister Vic Fedeli through MPP Bob Bailey's office.
