Lambton College implements smoking ban

Smokers at Lambton College will have to find another place to light up as of Wednesday.

The college has implemented a new policy prohibiting cigarette and marijuana smoking, and vaping across all campuses.

Spokesperson Cindy Buchanan said the ban falls in line with the college's newly launched strategic plan, which strongly supports a healthy workplace environment for students, staff, and visitors.

"The idea of smoke-free means the creation of a healthier and cleaner campus for everyone," said Buchanan. "It eliminates environmental second-hand smoke but also reduces litter. So, it really does provide a healthy leadership within the community."

Buchanan said a recent survey by Lambton Public Health found the majority of students are on board with the ban.

Those caught smoking on school property could face warnings or fines.
