Rising water levels force flood watch

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority is keeping a close eye on rising water levels across the watershed.

A flood watch for its Sydenham River watershed has been issued.

The conservation authority said water levels have been climbing steadily since Thursday, as up to 55 millimetres of rain has fallen across the region, and another 50 millimetres of rain in the forecast this week.

The precipitation could elevate water levels into natural floodplain areas, farmland and parks. The conservation authority said river banks are expected to be slippery with possible minor erosion.

We're reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to slippery banks and cold, swift-moving water.

High water levels have also closed roads in St. Clair Township:

  • Waterworks Road between Courtright Line and Moore Line
  • Stanley Line east of Kimball Road.
