Epilogue written for Mandaumin Library, demolition set to begin

After being closed for nearly a year, the Mandaumin Library is finally coming down.

Demolition of the Confederation Line branch was approved at Plympton-Wyoming council's regular meeting March 27.

Town CAO Carolyn Tripp said the library is being removed due to concerns about mold contamination.

"The building will be levelled and the site returned to a natural state. At this point in time, it will be used as a park until such time as council determines a future use for the property."

Tripp said demolition is slated for this month.

She said the library's hours were transferred to neighbouring branches when it closed.

"It's always sad to lose a service in a municipality, but luckily through the county, we were able to increase the hours both at the Wyoming branch as well as the branch in Camlachie to offset the loss of the library," said Tripp.

Plympton-Wyoming council decided to permanently close the Mandaumin Library last May after an inspection found it would cost $25,000 to repair water damage.
