The Sarnia Sting's OHL season came to an end on Thursday night.
They lost 5-4 in overtime to visiting Saginaw to give the Spirit the four-game series sweep in the opening round of the playoffs.
Cameron Lamour was tremendous in the Sting net, stopping 50 of 55 shots faced. Sarnia had 32 shots on Spirit goalie Ivan Prosvetov.
Sting captain Ryan McGregor led the way with a pair of goals, while Franco Sproviero had a goal and an assist. Rookie Justin McCombs scored Sarnia's other goal.
The Spirit led 2-1 after the first period but the Sting stormed back with three goals in the second to open up a 4-2 lead.
Saginaw notched a pair of goals in the third before eventually winning the contest in overtime.
Sting Assistant Coach Brad Staubitz said the game could have gone either way.
"The guys challenged themselves to put their best product on the ice and I think they did that," said Staubitz. "That was a heck of a game from the goaltending out. I thought Lamour stepped in and played an incredible game for us. He gave us a chance to win it."
Blade Jenkins scored the OT winner. Owen Tippett, Ryan McLeod, DJ Busdeker, and Damien Giroux also lit the lamp for Saginaw.
Thursday marked the final OHL game for overagers Sproviero and Mitch Eliot who will be too old to return.
