Alleged impaired driver strikes Sarnia home

A Sarnia man is charged with impaired driving after a car slammed into a house at the corner of Elgin Street and Napier Street at around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Sarnia police say there was extensive damage to the residence and witnesses were able to identify the driver who allegedly fled the area.

Officers located a suspect at a residence a short distance away and arrested him for failing to remain at the scene.

The suspect was transported to the Sarnia police headquarters where he allegedly blew three times over the legal limit.

David Michael Carew, 31, faces charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level of over 80 milligrams.
