Police say 'Momo Challenge' likely a hoax

Sarnia police are advising the public that the viral "Momo Challenge" is a likely a malicious hoax.

Information about the cyberbullying tactic, attached to a creepy photo of a doll with large eyes and long black hair that reportedly urges people to do dangerous things, has been shared across social media platforms this week.

The pop-up add, once opened, also reportedly created an opportunity for the computer owner's information to be hacked.

Constable John Sotttosanti said they remain concerned that some individuals may be vulnerable to this sort of attack.

He said, unfortunately, people are taken advantage of every day through various scams and hoaxes.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board has also issued a letter to families urging them to stay calm and not overreact or bring heightened awareness to the online activities.
