Sarnia singers serenading Valentine sweethearts

A group of Sarnia barbershop singers have the perfect Valentine's gift for that special someone in your life.

The Sarnia Bluewater Chordsmen will be travelling around the community Thursday in groups of four providing residents with their Singing Valentine's service.

Members will sing three songs for your Valentine, provide them with a handmade card and a rose for a cost of $40, with the proceeds going to charity.

Musical Director and President David Crosbie said they first started the service back in the 1990s, then after a decade-long hiatus, brought it back in 2014 due to high demand.

Crosbie said they've responded to quite a few interesting calls in the past.

"We were called out to a house on Confederation Line, and I think it was three or four couples having a themed euchre party. And it was like, well obviously February, and they were all wearing bikinis and bathing suits," said Crosbie. "We also had a situation where the husband took us right upstairs into the bedroom where his wife was sleeping. He woke her up and they started to sing as she ran into the en-suite bathroom, closed the door and wouldn't open it. So they sang the other songs through the door and left the rose and the card for her."

Crosbie said it's a great way to show someone you care about them, and it always catches the person off-guard.

"Basically it really makes the person who gets sung to feel really special. In the past we've had wedding proposals done, we've surprised people at businesses, and sometimes people want to bring a little embarrassment to the person."

Crosbie said singers will be performing a variety of songs, including Heart of My Heart, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, Love Me Tender, Chances Are and It Had To Be You.

The money raised will go towards Pathways Health Centre for Children, Harmonize For Speech, Sing Canada, and the Sarnia Brain Injury Association.
