YMCA Vice President of Financial Development Heidi Peever said the campaign is already off to a good start, thanks to a significant donation from Pembina Pipeline Corporation.

"We're extremely fortunate to have amazing community partners involved in the Y, and this gift of $30,000 is incredible from Pembina," said Peever. "Without these types of thoughtful companies and individuals in our community, we just would not be able to do what we do."

Over 500 donations were made to the 2018 campaign, which raised $183,000.

"We receive donations from all different companies and people in all walks of life. So, a $20 donation is just as important as any other donation. That's what happens with these community campaigns is we receive donations from hundreds and hundreds of donors different ways, some through face-to-face, asks some through volunteers and some through small events that we host."

Peever said last years campaign helped over 900 people with membership assistance.

"The Y truly is an inclusive, safe place for kids and families. We want to ensure that all kids and families in our communities have access to health and fitness programs, but more importantly,f the mental health aspect of belonging somewhere and feeling safe somewhere is extremely important."

Donations also sent children to summer camp, teens to leadership camp, assisted families with child care costs and helped provide struggling teens and adults with the help needed to gain full employment.
