After a year in limbo, a new site has been found for Lambton's Children's Safety Village.
Committee chair Mary Ann Buntrock told Lambton County Council Wednesday that they recently pitched plans to the Brigden Fair Board of Directors and it was well received.
She said they've agreed to let them build it at the fairgrounds, they're just working out the specific location.
"I would like to build the main building, the educational building, first," said Buntrock. "That's what the other villages did. Then you get the children used to going to the village. Then as the little buildings are built, they are more involved in what's going on, because it's going to be their village."
The project, estimated to cost $750,000, will focus on farm, bike, fire, drug and internet safety training.
Buntrock has asked county council for $250,000, to be paid over five years, to help build the village.
"We plan on being up and running a year from September and if we get this money we will start construction right away," said Buntrock.
Council will consider the request during budget deliberations March 6.
Plans to build the village at Lorne C. Henderson Conservation area in Petrolia were abandoned last year after the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority determined it wasn't the right fit.
