Several thousand dollars worth of damage is reported in a collision involving an alleged drunk driver Friday night.

Sarnia police say a vehicle struck a fire hydrant just before 11:50 p.m. in the area of Christina Street and Tecumseh Street and left the scene.

A short time later, a single-vehicle crash was reported at the very south end of Christina Street. Police said the driver had slammed into a fixed object at gates in the area and was injured. The 25-year-old male driver was taken to hospital for observation.

Police said breath tests indicated he was over twice the legal limit.
