After a two year break in construction, Sarnia Christian School is planning to start phase two of its renovations in late spring.
Principal Len Smit said they'll be upgrading and expanding the addition that was built in 1985.
"We're looking at finishing up the academic wing of our school," said Smit. "Five years ago we began the strategic plan to first demolish a piece of our building and build a fine arts wing and now we have the old piece of our school that we want to upgrade and add some classroom space."
Smit said they will create two new kindergarten classrooms and a dedicated eating area.
"The plan is to open up the space. Get some natural light into the building. Create some smaller spaces for children to learn in, some gathering spots for collaboration and some places where students can be creative and do some critical thinking work," said Smit.
Over 80 per cent of the $1.4 million fundraising goal for the final phase of the building project has already been raised.
Smit said he hopes construction, which will mostly be done over the summer months, will wrap up in the fall of 2020.
140 students are currently enrolled at the school, which Smit expects will accommodate about 200 students when the work is done.
A $1.5 million renovation was completed on the north end of the building, at the corner of Exmouth Street and Pontiac Drive, in 2016.
