After a challenging year, the Sarnia-Lambton United Way has officially closed the books on the 2018 fundraising campaign.
It's the first time since 1993 the campaign didn't reach its target.
In a release issued Thursday, the United Way announced they have raised over $10,000 more to finish at $1.969 million, only $31,000 short of the goal.
The United Way helps fund 19 local agencies including Big Brothers Big Sisters Sarnia-Lambton, Canadian Mental Health Association and Lambton Elderly Outreach.
The organization is in the final year of their three-year community investments, and are reviewing the agencies for the next cycle.
The volunteer Board of Directors will approve the 2019-2022 funding later this month.
