Bailey promises greater Chemical Valley 'trust and transparency'

The Doug Ford government's environment plan promises to hold polluters accountable with stronger enforcement and tougher penalties for breaking environmental laws.

With a lot of attention being paid to Chemical Valley, Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey is convinced there will be greater trust and transparency.

"Aamjiwnaang and some of our other downriver partners, people have maybe felt that they haven't had the same type of transparency and commitment from some of our partners in the past, so I'm quite convinced that going forward we will see that, and I will work with all the partners in the community," said he said.

The Progressive Conservative MPP added, however, that local industry feels it's done its share and wants to be given credit for technological improvements that have been made to lessen the impact on the environment.

Prior to the release of the plan, the government said it met with more than 200 stakeholders from across the province and received over 8,000 ideas through the Ontario.ca public portal.

The plan is subject to a 60-day review.
