We can expect some up and down temperatures in December followed by a frigid second half of winter in Sarnia-Lambton.
That's according to Weather Network Meteorologist Doug Gillham who says we've had an early start to the winter conditions.
He said arctic air will move into the region between December 5 and 10 followed by a significant thaw mid-month.
"We do expect a cold February," said Gillham. "Last year had a lot of severe cold weather, but then at the end of the winter, we actually had an extended period of rather mild weather before the cold came back during the spring. It does look like a strong conclusion to winter this year and especially given that we've had an early start. We aren't in our winter pattern just yet, but I think people will be rather winter-weary by the time spring comes."
Gillham said we can expect normal to slightly below normal snowfall in the area, as we aren't impacted much by lake effect snow.
He said if El Nino ends up becoming stronger than expected, we may be off the hook for the late season frigid weather.
Winter officially starts on December 21.
