Seniors focus of safe driving, fraud prevention event

A safe driving and fraud prevention event will focus on ensuring the safety of local seniors. The Sarnia Police Service, Rapids Family Health, and the Lambton Health Unit, will offer tips to help seniors stay safe behind the wheel, and while using their keyboards and phones. Cst. Rob Szabo said half of the presentation will deal with threats of fraud that are affecting residents coast-to-coast. "We're going to talk about things like the latest scams, computer fishing, identity theft," said Szabo. "Anytime I'm in a presentation format, I like to refer to it as "Ask a cop a question." I'm a 27-year veteran and this gives people an opportunity to ask anything that was on their mind in a face-to-face format." Szabo said the other part of the event will deal with road safety. "It's going to be dealing with where you can learn about safe driving tips for seniors. It talks about if you're over 80, what the drivers test entails, because it becomes a mandatory test at that point. And they're also going to talk about potentially knowing when to retire your license." The information session will be held at the Strangway Centre on East Street November 26 at 10 a.m.

Sarnia police are also looking for more neighbourhood watch volunteers.

For more information, you can attend a meeting at the police station November 28 at 7 p.m.
