Bluewater Power issues phone scam warning

Bluewater Power is warning its customers about another phone scam making the rounds in Sarnia-Lambton.

CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis said since Thursday, they've heard from about 15 people who have received suspicious calls.

She said the callers claim to represent Bluewater Power or in some cases claiming to be a rebate agency or carbon tax adjustment agency.

"The suspicious calls are asking customers for their Bluewater Power account number, asking for their bank account number, and then promising they will deposit some sort of carbon tax rebate into their account," said McMichael-Dennis.

She said anyone who receives a suspicious phone call, is advised to contact Bluewater Power, and not provide any personal information.

McMichael-Dennis said the utility service will never take the tactic of asking for personal information over the phone.
