Gladu pushing for opioid, palliative care funding

Marilyn Gladu wants to know where the money is.

The Sarnia-Lambton MP said she was disappointed with the federal government's fiscal update provided on Wednesday.

She said she was hoping to see funding for end-of-life care.

"I would have expected maybe something for palliative care," said Gladu. "It's coming into law on December 11 that they have to get consistent access for Canadians, and one would think that would cost some money. There's also nothing for the opioid crisis, so overall nothing that I could see for Sarnia-Lambton."

Gladu said she'll be speaking directly with Health Minister Ginette Petitpas-Taylor.

"I'm meeting with the health minister next week to go through and find out exactly what her plan is," she said. "Of course, if there is no plan then my job as the official opposition is to call her to account and ask her where it is publicly."

Gladu’s private member’s bill that is to ensure better access to palliative care across the country was passed into law late last year.

The new measures released by the Finance Minister Bill Morneau on Wednesday will cost $17.1 billion.

Morneau said offering tax incentives for businesses who invest in Canada will help the country compete with the U.S.
