NOVA boiler prep to be noisy

A series of commissioning activities to get a new gas-fired boiler ready for use will start at NOVA Chemical's Corunna site Monday.

Spokesperson Meaghan Lawrence says in order to prepare the boiler for service, the temperature of the equipment will be slowly increased.

She says steam -- venting from the unit as a result -- will produce noise.

Noise levels are expected to increase periodically throughout the day as commissioning activities progress.

Lawrence says the work will only take place weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and is expected to be complete the following week of November 19.

In an effort to reduce the impact on neighbours, Lawrence says the company has erected sound barriers and will be monitoring the sound in and around the site while the work is being done.

She says the new equipment will increase reliability, support operations at the expanding Corunna site and bring the facility's boiler complement up to four.
