Some Sarnia city councillors made a statement in a silent demonstration Monday night.
Outgoing councillors Anne Marie Gillis, Matt Mitro, Cindy Scholten, Bev MacDougall and Brian White -- the only councillor participating who was re elected in October -- entered council chambers wearing stickers that said "A Healthy Workplace Matters!"
"It's following along the theme that we were trying to project during the election, that a healthy workplace matters, and the fact that the mayor was sanctioned under the Occupational Health and Safety Act," said Gillis. "We're sending a message out to those who think that's trivial, or not something that needs to be respected. We wanted to ensure that they understood that it does need to be respected."
Gillis said the sanctions against the mayor cannot be lifted until they are complied with -- in order to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
She said some councillors weren't approached to wear the stickers.
Councillors Dave Boushy and Mike Kelch didn't participate. Councillor Andy Bruziewicz was absent.
