The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has issued a food watch for its Sydenham River watershed.
The conservation authority said water levels have been climbing steadily over the last 72 hours as 50 to 80 millimetres of rain has fallen across the region.
Water levels are rising on tributaries of the north branch of the Sydenham River, especially in the Petrolia and Brigden areas and on Black Creek near Bradshaw. Water levels on the east branch are also increasing steadily at Alvinston and at Florence.
With more rain in the forecast today, tonight and again Saturday, water levels are expected to continue to rise with some localized flooding into floodplain areas.
The conservation authority said all watercourses are expected to be near or over top of bank conditions for the next few days.
Several roads in St. Clair Township are expected to be closed this week including:
- Waterworks road between Courtright Line and Moore Line
- Pretty Road between Stanley Line and McCallum Line
- Waubuno Road north of Bickford Line
- Fairweather Road between Rokeby Line and Shiloh Line
- Fairweather Road between Aberfeldy Line and Oil Springs Line
