The cheques are not in the mail

Lambton County has implemented special procedures for Ontario Works recipients, given the situation with Canada Post.

Because of the ongoing labour dispute and rotating strikes, those who usually receive their cheque in the mail will have to pick it up instead.

About 450 Ontario Works cheques will be available for pick-up at Lambton Shared Services downtown starting Tuesday morning.

Ontario Works Manager Jane Dalziel said new applicants may be impacted as well.

"Caseworkers have already been letting anybody know that's been applying, given the current circumstances with Canada Post, is to either bring it in to the office, we do have a drop-box outside at the Lochiel Street entrance and information can also be faxed in as well," said Dalziel. "We would suggest people not put things in the mail system at this point to avoid delays."

Lambton Shared Services at the Bayside Center is open from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
