When Lori de Bruyn's 32-year-old son took his own life in March of 2017, the Watford resident knew she had to do something.
Now she and the Mike Harvey Foundation are close to opening a suicide prevention drop-in centre in a basement room at Trinity Anglican Church.
"My son suffered from depression since about grade 7 and we tried many things to get him help, and after he passed, I thought if there were others in his position, looking for direction, then that's who we wanted to help," said de Bruyn. "We want to be a resource centre so we can direct people who need help to the proper organization."
The resource centre will be staffed by volunteers with the foundation.
It's hoped it opens by year's end.
Meanwhile, the Sarnia Lambton Suicide Prevention Committee is hosting a pair of events this week.
Dena Moitoso is an expert in Suicide Bereavement and Traumatic Grief.
The registered psychotherapist will be speaking at a free event for the public on Thursday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Pathways Health Centre for Children.
