Fire prevention week 'look, listen and learn'

It's fire prevention week and we're being urged to look, listen and learn.

Sarnia Fire Rescue Public Education Officer Mike Otis said that's the theme of this year's campaign.

"Looking for fire hazards, making sure that you're not leaving things on the stove, or combustibles near things that can start a fire," he said.

Otis also had a safety message for smokers.

"Always properly extinguish your cigarettes, and make sure not flicking them off a balcony, or into peat moss, mulch, or anything like that. That does cause many fires," he said.

Otis said we must have a working smoke alarm on every floor of your home, and we should learn two ways out of every room and practice our escape plan.
