A smoke-free day at Lambton College on Friday will address the impending legalization of recreational marijuana.
Vice President of Student Success & Campus Services Rob Kardas said the college wants to focus on all aspects of student health.
On top of raising awareness about dangerous cigarette smoking, Kardas said the school is updating a number of policies to be prepared for the coming legalization of marijuana.
"Things like our Student Code of Conduct, our residence policies, it's just something we're trying to get organized now so that we're set for that date in the middle of October," he said. "Then we're going to be providing some education around it for our students."
Kardas said the college does not plan on allowing people to smoke cannabis on school grounds.
The Ontario government has since announced, however, that pot smoking will be allowed wherever tobacco smoking is permitted.
