A series of unique candidate meetings for October's municipal election, set in Sarnia parks, will give you the chance to meet and speak to those running for office.
Sarnia teacher Caleb MacKinnon has arranged three art-in-the-park-style events where candidates and residents can discuss issues.
MacKinnon said he's received a very positive response from candidates and expects most will be in attendance.
"I happen to think that municipal politics is retail politics, you have to be really comfortable being in your community, everyone knowing who you are and feeling like they can talk to you all the time," he said. "This opportunity to meet candidates casually allows you to ask them about issues that are very specific to you."
MacKinnon said with around 40 candidates on the ballot, this layout has several advantages over the traditional debate format.
The events are set for September 24 in Newton Park, September 25 in Tecumseh Park, and September 26 in Mike Weir Park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Inn of the Good Shepherd will be handing out a voters guidebook to help residents learn more about those running.
