UPDATE: Canatara climbers reach new heights

Competitors at Sarnia's Canatara Park reached for new heights in a high stakes event Saturday.

The Parks and Recreation Department hosted the International Society of Arboriculture Annual Tree Climbing Championship.

Mike Raaymaker, a member of the Ontario Tree Climbing Committee, said 25 men and ten women, equipped with harnesses, hard hats, and safety boots scrambled up large oak trees in the park.

Raaymaker said one of the keys of the sport is to climb efficiently and safely.

The top scorers advance to the Master's challenge, and then the North American and world competitions.

The 2019 International Tree Climbing Championship is in Knoxville, Tennessee August 9 to the 11.
