Point Edward Council has taken the first step in the eventual development of the Bridge Tavern property on Michigan Ave.
Village CAO Jim Burns says no bids were received for the site by the August 30 deadline.
"I was directed by council on Tuesday night to proceed with trying to gain clear and free title to that property through the vesting process," said Burns. "We're going to have to talk with the federal and provincial governments about the liens they have on the property."
Burns says council felt the property didn't sell through the tax sale process because of outstanding liens on it.He says if the village eventually takes possession, it would likely write off the $400,000 owed in taxes.
No decision has been made on developing the site.
The historic Bridge Tavern closed on June 30 of 2017 after almost 60 years.
The Brodimas family owned the establishment for 38 years.
