Safety first as school buses return to the road

With the start of the new school year, students and parents are reminded to stay safe.

Sarnia Police Constable John Sottosanti said motorists should also prepare for the change they will see on the roads.

"You come to a full stop when you observe a school bus stopped at the side of the road with its red light flashing and stop arm out," said Sottosanti. "Wait until that school bus has shut off its devices and then you can proceed on."

Failure to do so can result in a fine between $500 and $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offence.

Motorists are also reminded to drop children off at school in a safe area away from traffic.
