Sarnia fire officials say a $450,000 blaze that extensively damaged two homes and destroyed two vehicles, appears to be suspicious in nature.
The cause of the fire that lit up the night sky early Tuesday in the 200-block of Kathleen Ave., has been listed as undetermined, however.
Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis says the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and Sarnia police were called in to help with the investigation.
"The fire seems to be suspicious in nature, due to the fact of the timing in the night and starting in a vehicle that wasn't running," says Otis.
Investigators have not been able to prove exactly what triggered the blaze.
Neighbours say one elderly woman had lived in one of the homes for 69 years and lost everything.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters who battled the blaze in strong winds and very humid conditions.
