UPDATE: Port Huron Police Officer Shot To Death

Port Huron Police say Lieutenant Joel Wood was shot to death and two others were wounded early Friday morning in Clyde Township, Michigan.

The 45-year-old off-duty officer was a 22 year veteran of the force.

The St Clair County Sheriff says deputies responded to a report of shots fired with multiple victims shortly before 1am Friday.

They arrived to find a 29-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man, both with gunshot wounds.

Police say the woman had run to the man's residence and pounded on his door, but the suspect chased her, shot her and shot the neighbour.

The two were transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital by EMS.

Further investigation led to an apartment in the area where a man was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies determined the victim had been visiting the woman when the attack occurred.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man from Mount Morris, had fled into nearby woods but was found before 5am and arrested without incident at a gas station on Telegraph Rd. in the city of Southfield.

His name isn't being released at this time, and the investigation continues.
