Suspect Arrested After Elderly Woman Assaulted

Sarnia police have arrested a suspect after an elderly woman was assaulted and robbed in her Mayfair Dr. home last week.

On Tuesday evening, police say a man approached her in her backyard and asked for a drink of water, and then wanted to use her washroom.

When she let him inside, he allegedly assaulted her and fled with some of her personal property.

The man tried to come back the following night but left the area after police were called.

Constable John Sottosanti says a neighbour's surveillance video helped identify the suspect who was arrested at around 10am Sunday morning following a brief foot chase.

The man is charged with several offences including sexual assault, theft under $5,000, break and enter, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and failing to comply with recognizance.

His name is not being released at this time due to the sensitivity of the investigation.
