GoFundMe Launched For Fire Victim

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help a Sarnia woman who lost her husband in a fire.

The blaze in the Cardiff Acres subdivision broke out around 8pm Tuesday and a man had to be rescued from the basement of the fourplex. Jeff Douglas was taken to hospital in Toronto where family friends say he died.

SS Greenhouses Owner Brett King says costs for Helen Douglas are unknown at this point, but every little bit helps.

"We started the GoFundMe page on Wednesday," says King. "Our target is $10,000 to help with funeral costs, it was unfortunate that she lost her husband. Helen has been with us for over 12 years and she's part of our family."

King says they are also accepting donations at SS Greenhouses on Waterworks Rd.

"We will be having a big mason jar at the front cash and that's where Helen works," says King. "We will happily collect nickels, dimes, pennies, loonies and toonies, whatever you have. If anybody knows her who comes into the greenhouse, she's the little grey-haired lady at the front cash, the nicest little lady you would ever meet. We're just trying to help her family, she has a very small family and she's lost everything in this fire."
