Most Keep Their Cool In Canada Day Heat

Sarnia police are reporting one of the quietest Canada Day celebrations in recent memory.

Constable John Sottosanti says they didn't make a single arrest July 1 at either Centennial or Canatara Park.

"We didn't experience any major fights that we have normally in the past," says Sottosanti. "We were happy to see everyone getting along. I'm sure the heat played a factor."

He says they did ask a few impaired people to leave the parks or have someone come and take them home.

Officers responded to a total of 352 calls for service over the weekend, including 24 domestic disputes and 29 unwanted persons.

"It's not unusual to have more domestic disputes or unwanted persons," he says. "A lot of our unwanted persons are people who've worn out their welcome, because they've been drinking and are causing problems at either a party or residence."

Constable Sottosanti says officers also checked on the well-being of 18 people and responded to ten break and enters.
