Hydro Use Skyrockets During Heat Wave

Air conditioners have been working overtime during this heat wave.

On Saturday afternoon, Bluewater Power hit 187 megawatts of power consumption for the first time since 2013.

CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis says there are ways to reduce your hydro bill while still staying cool.

"Keeping drapes closed, using a fan to supplement your AC, turning off lights or switching to LEDs, and certainly cooking outside or ordering take-out."

Lambton Public Health has issued an extended heat warning that will be in effect until Friday.

In these stifling high temperatures, your body may not be able to cool properly which can lead to heat exhaustion or even heat stroke.

The most vulnerable are the elderly and the very young.

You're advised to try to stay out of the heat, drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous physical activity.

You can find more information including the location of cooling centres at www.lambtonhealth.on.ca.
