Sarnia Canada Day Celebrations Set For Sunday

Sarnia is known for having one of the biggest Canada Day parties per capita in the country.

A full day of festivities begin with the parade at 11:30am Sunday that moves from Lakeshore Rd. and Colborne Rd. to Canatara Park where opening ceremonies will be held at 1:30pm.

The national anthem will be sung and birthday cake offered to those on hand.

City Recreation Coordinator Rachel Veilleux says the party will continue throughout the afternoon at Canatara with multicultural entertainment, and plenty of ethnic food booths.

"At 6pm everything shifts over to Centennial Park, but even throughout that whole time frame we actually have a carnival that's coming to town this year," says Veilleux. "They'll be open throughout the day on Sunday in Centennial Park just on the west side of the open field."

Veilleux says there is musical entertainment at Centennial Park, and of course, the annual waterfront fireworks display will light up the sky at 10pm Sunday.

"The fireworks will be on a barge on the bay, so anywhere along the waterfront is a fantastic spot, you can even sit along the berms in Centennial Park as well," says Veilleux.

When the fireworks end at about 10:20pm, Veilleux says there'll still be musical entertainment by Yasgurs Farm until 11pm.

Various city roads will be closed Sunday.

Communities across Lambton County also have Canada Day celebrations planned July 1.
