Police Warn Of Canada Revenue Agency Scam

Sarnia police say the common Canada Revenue Agency scam is very active right now.

They've been inundated with reports from residents who say they have been called by people claiming to represent the CRA.

He says they're told they must pay money or risk going to jail.

"These callers are using computer-generated phone numbers to call in," Sottosanti says. "It could be Ontario, Quebec, the United States or all the way to Africa and they'll ask you for silly payments too."

CHOK News received a report of a person losing $5,000 after being convinced to buy 25, $200 iTunes cards.

Constable Sottosanti is encouraging store employees to be extra vigilant, by asking customers who are purchasing large amounts of iTunes cards, the reason for the purchase.

Individuals who think they've fallen victim to this scam or any other should contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or visit online at www.antifraudcentre.ca
