Firefighters Battle Brush Fire Near Train Tunnel

The cause of a large brush fire near the American end of the St. Clair Rail Tunnel late Sunday afternoon remains unknown.

The blaze broke out just after 4pm near 10th St. and Johnston St. within a fenced area around the tracks.

The Port Huron Fire Department says it was able to extinguish the flames within the hour, leaving a large scorched area.

No injuries were reported.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
