A first of its kind project in Ontario is bringing four local municipalities together to supply residents with clean and safe drinking water for many years to come.
Under the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, Petrolia, Dawn-Euphemia, Enniskillen and Oil Springs will receive $7-million towards upgrades at the Petrolia Water Treatment Plant in Bright's Grove, a project that's estimated to cost $8-million.
Petrolia Mayor John McCharles says the project is an example of what can be accomplished when communities work together.
"With the work of the four municipalities and the need for clean, safe drinking water, it all came together," he says. "I believe the provincial government was very excited about having four municipalities go together and that's probably a good reason that we did get some funding."
Public information sessions will be announced soon. The project is expected to be complete in 2020.
The grant is the second largest Petrolia has received, second only to the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade grant of $14.3-million.
