A founding member of LEHDER Environmental believes winning an Outstanding Business Achievement Award (OBAA) in 2017 helped boost their talent pool.
The Sarnia company, which specializes in emissions testing, air quality services and environmental, health and safety services, was recognized by the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce for its employee relations.
Mark Roehler says they really noticed a change during a recent hiring blitz.
"About three or four months ago we brought in some more key employees and I think the fact that we had one this award, it made us a more attractive place," says Roehler. "We actually had a lot of choices from applications from people that wanted to work for us. So I think it actually helped in giving us a little bit more credibility of being a good place of work."
OBAA nominations opened Monday.
Chamber President Shirley de Silva says they're opening up the awards this year.
"This year what's different about the nominations is you don't have to be a chamber member," says de Silva. "In the past, it's been limited to chamber members, but we're being inclusive and this year members and non-members alike can be nominated. We're hoping that this reaches out and provides an opportunity to recognize excellence amongst all businesses in Lambton County."
Awards will be presented in 18 categories this year, including small and large business of the year, member of the year, outstanding customer service and young entrepreneur.

The awards will be handed out at a gala October 12 at the Imperial Theatre.
