Warwick Township Looks Into Suicide Prevention Options

Warwick Township is looking into setting up a suicide prevention drop-in centre in Watford.

Mayor Todd Case says they want to follow up on a request from the Deker Bauer Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

"We've asked staff to draw up a report on potential locations as to where it might be housed and how funding could be created locally to support an organization like this," says Case. "I think the model the Foundation would bring here would be similar to one in Sarnia, in that there would be a lot of volunteers. I met with a delegation a few weeks ago. We had local representatives, as well as OPP. I think it's a well-run organization in Sarnia and I think that's what they want to bring here."

One option could see the drop-in located in a proposed new community centre addition to the arena, but Case says it should be warm and welcoming which may not lend itself to locating in a community centre.

A report will come back to council in time for its April 9 meeting.
