Sarnia Building Permits Lagging

Sarnia's construction activity has fallen behind the first quarter pace set in 2017.

City Hall issued 31 permits in March for a three month 2018 total of 83, worth about $15.2-million, which is nearly $2-million less than last year.

Nearly $800,000 worth of permits were issued for the construction of a couple of buildings at the Suncor refinery on River Rd.

The largest permit last month was for $1.3-million for a dwelling at 1733 Lakeshore Rd.

New home construction is about the same as last year through the first quarter.

Eight permits for single-family dwellings were issued in March for a year-to-date total of 23, compared to 24 in 2017.
